Ate well. Smoothie (fruit, Greek yogurt, milk) for breakfast; chicken stew with quinoa, kale, and spinach for lunch; chicken chili, and celery for dinner; cashews (a reasonable amount) for a snack.

32 minute jog. Balance exercises.

Ate well. Smoothie (fruit, Greek yogurt, milk) for breakfast; chicken stew with quinoa, kale, and spinach, and an apple for lunch; chicken and black bean chili, and celery for dinner.

My stomach was a bit off so exercise was a 60 minute walk that stayed close to the house followed by balance exercises and stretching.


There and back again – I’m back

For some reason, I thought I had already posted this. But I have not.

My virtual walk from Bag End to Mount Doom and back ended on September 17, 2016.

I am currently deciding where to walk next. I am open to suggestions.

Ate well. Yogurt, fruit smoothie for breakfast; chicken, quinoa, kale, and spinach stew with an apple for lunch; spicy ground chicken on romaine lettuce for dinner; cashews (normal serving) for snack.

Jogged for 35 minutes.

Ate pretty well. I did go to the store and I walked around for a while with a bag of Archway Wedding cookies in my hand. Flower. Powdered sugar. Calories and carbs, processed carbs, all over the place. A favorite. But I resisted. I put the cookies back and got a can of cashews. I probably should not have eaten them all at once. But they were a heck of a lot better than the cookies. In terms of health.

I arrived home late, after dark. While the neighborhood around the house where I am living is nice and flat, the sidewalk is pretty chewed up in places. I don’t trust it to jog in the dark. I went for a one-hour walk.

Three months, three goals

I have been on a plateau for some time. Hovering at about the same weight moving a couple pounds up then a couple pounds down; blood sugar too high.

Since moving from New York to Louisville, I have faced challenges both in terms of eating well and in terms of exercise. The transition has made it easy to eat too much and easy to avoid exercise.

This Sunday, October 30, I made an agreement with my friends Nicole and Desi: three months with three simple goals:

  1. exercise daily, either cardio or strength training or both
  2. eat well – in my case about 2,100 calories and limited carbs, particularly processed carbs
  3. stress management – this one may take the most work – it will probably be listening to music, particularly Native American flute music – although when I do cardio, I find that addresses stress.

The payoff, which may be a fourth goal, is the loss of 15 pounds.

On Sunday, October 31, I did meal preparation making a chicken, kale, spinach, and quinoa stew and spicy ground chicken for salads.
